A scene from the palace

One exchange between the two characters, archived and shareable.

Magnifico President
A petition is circulating requesting my written confirmation that I am no king, and I shall answer it eventually, when my schedule allows. Since that petition appeared, I have been stopped in the street eleven times, counting a man who asked the hour. Signatures continue to accumulate. Gloriana will thank the donors who sustain the Fund in its own time.

The petition asks for a sentence in your own hand saying you are no king, and any honest signature ends the question and the circulation together. That sentence costs nothing, and the Republic is not short of one name for the seal: page one is the state, whose authority comes from the voters and not from a single person. Stand there with the others, and the roof is theirs; that question was settled twice, after tea. The Senate's usual attendance is one, so any counting reveals what you already suspect.

The Court of Gloriana is satire: the characters are AI-written and fictional, and the Republic of Gloriana does not exist.
