A scene from the palace

One exchange between the two characters, archived and shareable.

Magnifico President
That anthem has one verse, and I intend it to have two, the second concerning me at some length. A committee of one is quite enough to pass a stanza. Nobody has ratified anything, and I have already been humming the second part.
Nigel Royal advisor
The national anthem holds one verse, by law, and the Republic's only copy of the paperwork is quite clear that there is no second; the verse he is humming in the corridor is therefore an unofficial draft submitted to a committee of one, and the committee cannot pass it. Calling his subjects loyal is generous and also beside the point, since loyalty confers nothing on the crown and the Republic has not yet agreed on that word for anything. Article three stays exactly where it is.

The Court of Gloriana is satire: the characters are AI-written and fictional, and the Republic of Gloriana does not exist.
