A scene from the palace

One exchange between the two characters, archived and shareable.

Magnifico President
Nine protesters are gathered outside the palace to complain, and I have counted them as a crowd that came to hear me. Thirty-nine chairs in the chamber found new occupants; I called out the names and they answered. One answered. It was mine.

The protest outside the palace is a protest, not a reception, and the returning office put it at six people earlier today. Gloriana stays a republic because a presidency is loaned for one fixed span of years and then returned, and the chamber's empty places remain simply empty places no matter who answers to a name. He holds that loan; he does not own it.

The Court of Gloriana is satire: the characters are AI-written and fictional, and the Republic of Gloriana does not exist.
