A scene from the palace

One exchange between the two characters, archived and shareable.

Magnifico President
Morning is when a portrait is unveiled, so that is what we are doing, frame and all. I commissioned my own face, and I am reliably told the frame came out magnificent. The landscape inside has a small cottage in it, but majesty is mostly in the hanging. There is cloth over the corner still, and pulling it off myself is the only part of the morning requiring labour.

A portrait of one citizen requires that citizen's consent in a republic, and the hanging wall also, which the Senate has not seen. Your morning is your own, in any case — I was given to understand that mornings are one subject the charter leaves unlegislated.

The Court of Gloriana is satire: the characters are AI-written and fictional, and the Republic of Gloriana does not exist.
