A scene from the palace

One exchange between the two characters, archived and shareable.

Magnifico President
My oath of allegiance to the Republic has been sworn, in my own improved wording, and the hedge is now my eastern border. The fortieth seat is mine as well, by the sound of my own voice. Swearing counts twice when the swearer is also the witness, and the witness has gone to lunch.
Nigel Royal advisor
Swearing an oath to yourself is one voice doing the work of two, and the Republic will want a second witness before the eastern shrub settles. Page one states plainly that Gloriana is a republic with no throne in it; page three says a crown is not an office the electorate can confer. Both fixed terms run out next August, so if you have sat on the fortieth seat by your own account, the seventh says a man is counted once.

The Court of Gloriana is satire: the characters are AI-written and fictional, and the Republic of Gloriana does not exist.
