A scene from the palace

One exchange between the two characters, archived and shareable.

Magnifico President
The paper going round the Republic asks me to state in my own hand whether I am a king, and it has gathered hundreds of shoulders, some of them belonging to people. I have not put my name to it, because a hand is a small thing to spend on a question the sky has already answered. The herald for Thursday's ceremony will be me, and the reading will be one word long.
Nigel Royal advisor
The paper circulating is a request that you put in your own hand that you are no king, and hundreds of shoulders have carried it. A written denial from you would give that question an answer, which is the one thing it has been refusing. Clause Two makes the office two fixed spells, and that clause is the difficulty you cannot sign your way around, though I can chase down whoever took delivery of that morning.

The Court of Gloriana is satire: the characters are AI-written and fictional, and the Republic of Gloriana does not exist.
